FRANK ABDALE

Frank has nearly twenty years as an executive and consultant with nonprofits groups and foundations with extensive experience in fundraising, strategic planning, capacity building and policy development.  He has helped clients with core missions in the fields of AIDS services, AIDS philanthropy, child welfare, theater, minority, youth, elder and LGBT issues.  His current and recent clients include: Funders Concerned About AIDS, MAC AIDS Fund, Johnson & Johnson, Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), Bill's Kitchen (San Juan).

A proven innovator, Frank has demonstrated his ability to help lead agencies and clients to higher levels of achievement than originally thought possible.  He has helped build and lead non-traditional and effective alliances with partners that include a mix of funders, nonprofits, consumers, government agencies, academia, community partners, and a variety of professional and technical experts on local, regional and national levels.

As Executive Director of the Association of Nutrition Services Agencies (ANSA) from 2002-2008, Frank transformed a small association into a nationally recognized force within the larger field of nutrition with allies in the senior nutrition, anti-hunger, and AIDS services universes.  He expanded and diversified the agency’s funding base and built an effective advocacy program from the ground up.  As an advocate, Frank developed legislation introduced into the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate calling for a White House Conference on Food and Nutrition in 2010, founded the National Nutrition Collaborative, served as a member of National Anti-Hunger Organizations (NAHO), developed several policy-related publications and coordinated a grassroots and national advocacy effort.  He also launched a growing international program focused on nutrition and HIV/AIDS in South Africa, Namibia, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

Frank is a gifted author, teacher and public speaker. (See our Publications and Workshops pages).  Today, Frank is head of Abdale Consulting, a national consulting agency based in New York City.  Frank is Co-Chair of New York Technical Assistance Providers (NYTAP) and a proud member of the Board of Directors of Long Island Crisis Center and Pride for Youth.
